Easy ways to add a halloween twist to your coffee.
With Halloween approaching, fancy taking your coffee recipes to the next level? There are many simple ways you can spice up your typical cup of coffee.
Add spices
What reminds you more of Halloween than cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin or ginger? If you want to create an aromatic cup of coffee reflecting the season, simply add half a teaspoon of your favourite spice to your coffee. Alternatively, add a squirt of pumpkin puree for a quick autumnal spark. Finish with a light dusting of spice on top.
Make your own pumpkin spice latte
Capture the essence of the season by using pumpkin spice puree and spices such as cinnamon in your coffee. To go one step further, you could boil the milk separately on the hob adding cinnamon sticks, cardamom, vanilla pods and then add it to your coffee for a more intense flavour.
Use melted marshmallow to create spider webs across your coffee cup
As an alternative finishing touch to your cup, simply melt marshmallows in the microwave, dip in a fork and drag the trail of marshmallow in a pattern across your glass or mug. To add sparkle, sprinkle on some silver edible glitter.
Create a Halloween blend of whipped cream
When Halloween comes around, there are three key colours that make an appearance: orange, green and purple. Whip up some cream and separate it into three bowls. Add one colour of food colouring to each bowl and stir through. Then add the cream to a piping bag with each colour meeting by the tip of the piping bag. Pipe it over the surface of your coffees for a multi-colour swirl effect.
Use red food colouring to create a drink perfect for vampires
Want to trick your guests? Simply add red food colouring to your brew. The flash of red is the perfect cup of coffee to drink on a Halloween night. Add extra blood decoration to your cup by dropping or smearing food colouring over the edge of the cup.
Use a spooky stencil to decorate your coffee
Do you want to add a perfect finishing touch to your coffee? There are plenty of halloween related plastic stencils you can buy or you could make the stencils yourself with some spare cardboard. Using this, you can sprinkle your spices or cinnamon sugar in a potentially terrifying pattern to scare your friends.
Make a caramelised apple syrup
Toffee apple in a coffee? Melt down sugar and add thin slices of apple. When they have finished caramelising and once they have cooled, you can blend it all together. You can use this syrup in iced coffees to add an odd halloween twist.
Make amaretti biscuits in the shape of pumpkins, ghosts, witches hats
Add a traditional coffee pairing but in the form of spooky entities. Decorate them using bright coloured piping and detail your creations beside your coffee.
Colour mini marshmallows into rotten teeth
To add a gruesome touch to your coffees, decorate mini marshmallows using yellow, brown and black food colouring to replicate the look of rotten teeth. Sprinkle on top of your franken whipped cream to finish your decoration.
